YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO " don't worry I am happy NOW

Hi all,

This week was happy, your prayers were useful to me. Well I want to tell you something but please don't laugh, I ate cherry for the first time in my life, Well there was no cherry in Iraq, and now it look like they begin to import It from out side. This is one of the positive things that happened after the war. Now we can choose from Iraqi oranges, Syrian oranges, Turkish oranges, and Egyptian oranges. And of course you will not choose Iraqi oranges because they are too small in comparison with others.

Now we are in summer, and summer's fruit began to appear. I like eating fruit especially watermelon after lunch *yummy*

Yesterday at 12:00 PM, I took my book and go to sleep I read till 1:00 AM, then I tried to sleep but I couldn't, the electricity turned off, I thought it was the reason of not sleeping, then the generators turn on so I said "oh finally I Will sleep". After along time I discovered that the electricity was not the reason, I look at the clock and it was 3:15 AM. WOW, I should be dreaming now!!. Then I remembered that I drank some Nescafe (instant coffe) and it was certainly the reason.

Guess what happened, our telephone fixed this afternoon, I called Mary "my friend" and talk with her. I asked her to visit me someday but she said that she told her father that she wants to visit me and he refused because of the bad things (explosion) that happened in our neighborhood *shock*. He doesn't think our house is a safe place for his daughter to visit. This feels weird to me, because this is the same neighborhood that I've lived in since I was born.

I am laughing right now, NOW somebody call, I hold the phone, I said Alo
_ Alo, who are you?
- Who are you?
- Well, I don't know what to say to you. Do you have any brother?
- NO, what do you want?
- well, I don't know what to say, my daughters said that one body call them and have this number I call and you hold the phone and It seem that you don't call us and you are not a boy.

It was strange. I understood him. some boys call girls just to annoy them.
isn't that the most stupid manners?
Well we are waiting Aya to come, It seem that she will not come it's 4:00 pm.
I notice that my mother bought my birthday's gift today, she was too worried when I entered her room and she was trying to push me out. Well she won. I love surprise I don't want to know what it is. so I will wait .......

Dear Hnk,

You have surprised me! I thought today was Najma's turn to write. I came to comment to your previous post, but here you have a new one. So, I will comment to this post. I am glad that you are feeling happy! :)

I love the flavor of cherries. I especially love cherry pie! Wow, you have lots of oranges! Hey, I like watermelon, too. :)

It is good news that your telephone is fixed. Calling your friends is not quite as good as seeing them, but it is better than not knowing how they are doing.

I hope that you really enjoy your birthday and that you get very nice presents! Will you have a birthday cake? I don't know if it is a custom in Iraq, but in America everyone has a big cake for their birthday. I love birthday cake! :)

I am happy because you are happy...
I love cherries and orange. But I don't like the Egyptian orange so much.

I like berries. There are many different kinds, and some countries seem to have types of berries not usually found in other countries. Berrys are not always found fresh in U.S. stores, but jars of sweet jam made from berries are always available. Jam made from raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, and blackberry is usually on the shelf (and orange marmelade, but that is not a berry). Once a friend's grandmother made jam from gooseberries we picked (these berries have spines and are impossible to bite, but the jam was delicious).

Last year I found a store that sells products from Sweden (the IKEA store) and they had jam made from berrys I had bever tasted before! They had "cloudberry" and "lingonberry", and also gooseberry which I had not tasted in many years!

Cranberries are also used in the US to make jam-like "sauce" that's good with turkey (the bird, not the country) at Thanksgiving Day (3rd Thursday in November). Cranberries are not sweet like most berrys, although they are sometimes sweetened or mixed with other fruit to make jam. I think they are much less common in some countries than the U.S. - a friend in Italy had never tasted them.

Hey, that's good! All my life I've never been one for liking cherries ( probably because I've had cherry pies which are acid and don't taste like the fruit). But it's spring here in NY and new cherries are out - I've decided to try these gems - like a picture I once saw in a fairytale - when Aladdin is in the magical garden where he finds trees of luscious fruit- which turn out to be gems of all kinds, and of course, he picks them.

Well, the cherries look like garnets. You know dark red, shining.

Yes, they are delicious!

Cranberries grow only in the kind of nasty swamp that we are fortunate to have so much of in the United States :D

Happy Birthday, Hnk!

I'm happy you're so happy HNK! I envy you the different types of oranges you can buy - in the neighborhood where I live we seem to only have oranges from Florida. I love watermelon too, especially when its hot in the summer. Happy birthday!!!!

Just to prove that the person who wrote the posts in that blog is the same one who comments here and who sent you an email. You said in an email you worried that I might be a soldier or something. Don't worry, I'm not, just a curious old guy in Sacramento who daydreams about Mosul.

Inspiring love or affection.

Enjoyable; delightful.

It may not mean exactly what HNK thinks it does, Brian, but it doesn't mean what you think it does either :)

For anyone else reading this, June 3 is hnk's 16th birthday! (even though it's still June 2 here in the US, it is the morning of June 3 in Iraq now)

Hnk likes pictures and, as far as I know, has never been outside Iraq. So if you would like to make her day, you can always email her some nice pictures from places she's never been to yet.

Hnk's email is hnk1989@gmail.com
